Cubicle Hot Spot: The Thermostat

We all have different comfort levels when it comes to the ideal temperature at work, and nothing demonstrates this more than the levels of animosity, disdain, and gamesmanship caused by the thermostat. Some people like the temperature on the cool side, others on the warm side. Unfortunately, unlike philosophical differences such as the importance of birthday cake or aesthetic differences such as those regarding cubicle decorations, the problem with discomfort is that it is a physical problem -- one that requires not an intellectual discipline, but a physical one, and that usually means adapting by adjusting what you wear in the office. If the situation is intolerable, voice your concerns in a professional manner. Don't try to play with the thermostat when no one is looking. Someone is always looking.
