Though it may not seem like a big deal to just suck it up and have a few openly public bites of birthday cake before discreetly tossing it in the trash can. However, it is these little capitulations of the soul that bring cubicle dwellers to the brink of insanity. So for your birthday cake pushers out there: Stop it! Some people are on diets. Others don't like sugar rushes. Still others may not have had their lunch yet, and don't want to start with dessert. So lay off your colleagues who don't won't to eat birthday cake. Ask once. And accept whatever answer is offered. Don't make a scene or harass birthday cake refusers.
